School Districts Community Information The Town of Ossining is situated on the banks of the Hudson River about 30 miles from New York City. The population of the town is 24,000. Much of the Town of Ossining is built into hills overlooking the Hudson River, with views of High Tor and Hook Mountain, and on a clear day, the skyline of Manhattan.
Ossining's residents can reach New York City quickly via a 45 minute express commute on Metro North to Grand Central Station. Ferry service is available to and from Haverstraw. Nearby highways are Route 9, Route 9A, the Saw Mill Parkway and the Taconic State Parkway, all of which make for an easy commute to any point within the Tri State area. Ossining has an extensive recreational program for all age groups, including a summer day camp for local children. The Ossining Village Fair is held each year, bringing everyone together for a day of fun and food. There is also a seasonal weekend Farmers’ Market. Cedar Lane Park features 29 acres of walking trails, an athletic field and a swimming pool. The Teatown Reservation, a 780-acre preserve and nature center, offers over 14 miles of hiking trails and a 33-acre lake. There are also three boat clubs: Shattamuc, Ossining Boat Club and Canoe Club, Inc. as well. The town is served by the public Ossining School District and three parochial schools. |
